Creating a place in the void is a tricky task because space is both given and absent – as long as there is nothing in it, it is absent and it appears when something shows.
A gallery, as a place, is all about there being something in it. However, contrary to abstract space, a gallery provides a space that in itself becomes absent when something appears in it and that reappears when the object is removed.
In a sense, a gallery space is an object as well.
