The city was one of the cultural capitals of the fourteenth century, thanks to the presence of the Carraresi lordship, who made Padua one of the main centers of pre-humanism. Between the 14th and 15th centuries an imposing cultural current devoted to the ancient developed concurrently with Florence, which would transform the Paduan Renaissance into the Renaissance and influence the artistic structure of the entire northern Italy of the 15th century.
